Aluminium profile for garage door manufacturers

Buyers should prioritize 6063-T5 or 6061-T6 aluminium alloys for the best balance of strength and extrudability. Ensure the wall thickness is at least 1.2mm to 2.0mm for structural integrity, especially for wide industrial doors. For thermal efficiency, look for profiles with polyamide thermal break strips, which significantly reduce heat transfer and energy costs.

For maximum corrosion resistance, powder coating (minimum 60-80 microns) or anodizing (Class 15 or 25) is recommended. If the garage door will be installed in coastal areas, ensure the coating meets Qualicoat or AAMA 2604/2605 standards to prevent salt spray erosion and UV fading over a 10-15 year lifespan.

Ensure the manufacturer adheres to ISO 9001 for quality management. For the product itself, look for EN 12604 (mechanical aspects) and EN 12453 (safety in use) compliance. If exporting to the US, verify that the profiles meet ASTM B221 specifications for aluminium-alloy extruded bars and shapes.

Request CAD or BIM files (DWG/STEP format) from the supplier to verify cross-sectional dimensions. Pay close attention to the groove design for weather stripping (EPDM seals) and the hinge mounting points. Many top-tier suppliers on Made-in-China.com offer OEM/ODM customization to match specific track and motor systems.

The biggest risks are surface scratching during transit and dimensional deviation. Mitigate these by requiring interleaving paper or PE protective film on every profile and specifying wooden crate packaging for LCL shipments. Always request a Pre-shipment Inspection (PSI) to verify that the tolerances align with GB/T 5237 or ASTM standards.

Aluminium pricing is typically based on the Aluminum Ingot Price (SMM or LME) + Processing Fee. Negotiate a formula-based pricing model to protect against market volatility. For custom molds, discuss tooling cost rebates where the supplier refunds the mold fee once your cumulative order volume reaches a certain tonnage (e.g., 5-10 tons).

Use Secured Trading Services provided by platforms like Made-in-China.com to ensure payment is only released upon proof of shipment. Always verify the supplier's Business License and Export Qualification. Avoid making full payments upfront; a standard 30% deposit and 70% balance against the Bill of Lading (B/L) is the industry norm for established buyers.

Aluminium profiles are 'long-length' cargo, which may incur OOG (Out of Gauge) surcharges if they exceed 5.8 meters (fitting into a 20ft container) or 11.8 meters (40ft container). Check for Anti-dumping Duties (AD) in your specific country (e.g., USA, EU, or Australia) regarding Chinese aluminium extrusions to avoid unexpected import tax hikes at the port of entry.
