Aqueous film forming foam manufacturers

Buyers must prioritize the expansion ratio (typically low-expansion for AFFF, around 1:8 to 1:12) and the concentration rate (commonly 1%, 3%, or 6%). It is critical to verify the extinguishing time and burn-back resistance ratings. For high-risk environments, ensure the foam is compatible with freshwater, brackish water, and seawater to maintain operational flexibility.

To ensure global safety and performance, products should ideally carry UL 162 (Standard for Foam Equipment and Liquid Concentrates) or EN 1568 certification. For maritime applications, IMO MSC.1/Circ.1312 compliance is essential. Additionally, due to environmental shifts, verify if the product is PFOS/PFOA-free or meets the latest EPA and REACH regulations regarding fluorinated surfactants.

AFFF is specifically designed for Class B fires (flammable liquids like gasoline or oil). If the buyer deals with polar solvents (e.g., alcohols, ketones), they must source Alcohol-Resistant AFFF (AR-AFFF). Standard AFFF will degrade rapidly when in contact with polar solvents, rendering it ineffective for those specific hazards.

High-quality AFFF concentrates typically have a shelf life of 10 to 20 years if stored in original, unopened containers. Buyers should ensure the packaging is high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or stainless steel to prevent corrosion. The supplier should provide a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch to guarantee the chemical stability of the concentrate.

AFFF is classified as a chemical product, which may require a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and a DGM report for air or sea freight. Some formulations may be flagged as Dangerous Goods (DG) depending on their flashpoint or corrosive properties. Always confirm the UN number and Hazard Class with the supplier before booking shipment to avoid customs seizures.

Prioritize Audited Suppliers who have undergone on-site inspections by third-party agencies like SGS or Bureau Veritas. Check for ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) certification, which indicates the manufacturer follows proper chemical waste disposal and production protocols, reducing the risk of regulatory shutdowns.

Request tiered pricing based on volume, as chemical production costs decrease significantly with scale. Negotiate for free sample testing (typically 5-10 liters) to be sent to a third-party lab for performance verification before the balance payment is released. Ensure the contract includes a quality guarantee clause covering the foam's expansion and drainage time.

Utilize Secured Trading services provided by Made-in-China.com to protect payments. Use Letter of Credit (L/C) for very large volumes to ensure payment is only released upon presentation of valid shipping documents and inspection certificates. Avoid direct wire transfers to unknown accounts without a verified proforma invoice.
