Bales of clothes manufacturers

Quality in the used clothing industry is categorized by grades. Grade A (or Cream Grade) consists of items with no holes, no stains, and no signs of heavy wear, often looking like new. Grade B may include items with minor washable stains or slight fading but remain wearable. It is crucial to verify the sorting process of the supplier; professional suppliers on Made-in-China.com usually have a multi-stage sorting system to ensure consistency within each bale.

Bales are typically compressed using hydraulic balers into weights of 45kg, 55kg, 80kg, or 100kg. For the African market, 45kg and 55kg bales are most popular, while Southeast Asian markets often prefer 80kg-100kg. Ensure the packaging uses high-quality waterproof woven sacks (yellow, white, or transparent) and is secured with strong plastic or metal strapping to prevent bursting during sea transit.

Most importing countries require a Fumigation Certificate and a Health/Sanitary Certificate to prove the clothes have been professionally disinfected. You must ensure the supplier can provide these documents to avoid customs seizure. Additionally, check for Pre-shipment Inspection (PSI) requirements, such as SGS or BV inspections, which are mandatory for certain regions like Kenya (PVOC) or Nigeria (SONCAP).

Market-specific sourcing is vital. For example, European/US sizes are generally larger, while Asian sizes are smaller. You should request a detailed packing list that specifies the ratio of items (e.g., 30% T-shirts, 20% Jeans, 10% Jackets). Reliable suppliers will allow you to customize the mix based on the tropical or temperate climate of your destination country.

The biggest risk is 'trash loading,' where the top of the bale looks good but the middle is filled with waste. To mitigate this, always work with Audited Suppliers on Made-in-China.com and request a live video inspection during the baling process. Avoid deals that seem unrealistically cheap, as these often indicate poor sorting or high waste percentages.

Prices are usually quoted per kilogram or per bale. For bulk orders (e.g., a 40ft HQ container which holds roughly 25-28 tons), you should negotiate for a volume discount of 5-10%. Use Secure Payment services or Letters of Credit (L/C) for large transactions to ensure funds are only released upon proof of shipment (Bill of Lading).

Since used clothing is a low-value, high-volume commodity, Ocean Freight is the only viable option. Maximize your ROI by ordering a 40ft HQ container rather than a 20ft, as the shipping cost per unit is significantly lower. Ensure your supplier provides a detailed Loading Report with photos of the container seal to prevent tampering during transit.

Yes, some countries have strict bans or high tariffs on used textiles to protect local industries. Before ordering, consult with a local customs broker to confirm that used clothing imports are legal in your country and to understand the HS Code (typically 6309.00) tax implications.
