Choosing the right material is critical for durability and user experience. TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) is more cost-effective, softer to the touch, and highly elastic, but it is porous, meaning it requires regular powdering to prevent stickiness and careful cleaning to avoid bacteria buildup. Silicone is non-porous, heat-resistant, and more durable, offering a more realistic skin texture that does not degrade easily, though it comes at a higher price point and is less flexible than TPE.

Buyers should focus on the internal skeleton (EVO or Stainless Steel) to ensure the doll can hold various poses without the frame snapping. Look for integrated heating systems and voice interaction modules to increase product value. Ensure the weight-to-height ratio is manageable for shipping; many suppliers now offer hollow-body designs to reduce freight costs while maintaining external aesthetics.

Safety is paramount due to prolonged skin contact. Ensure products have RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and REACH certification to guarantee the absence of phthalates and heavy metals. For electronic components (heating/vibration), CE (Europe) or FCC (USA) certification is required. Always request Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) from the supplier to verify the chemical composition of the TPE or Silicone.

Request a material sample kit or a 'head-only' sample to inspect the makeup durability and skin realism. High-quality dolls use implanted hair (mohair or human hair) rather than cheap wigs and feature hand-painted detailing (veins, nails) that should not rub off with water or oil-based lubricants.

Adult dolls are often flagged during customs inspections. It is advisable to use discreet packaging and declare the items under neutral HS codes such as 9503.00 (Plastic Toys/Dolls) or 3926.90 (Other Plastics). Ensure the supplier provides non-explicit outer cartons to avoid seizure or 'public decency' violations in conservative jurisdictions.

The primary risk is structural damage during transit. Insist on reinforced wooden crates or double-layered corrugated boxes with custom-fit foam inserts. Because these items are heavy, sea freight (LCL) is the most economical option, but you must ensure the container is moisture-controlled to prevent mold growth on TPE materials.

Use secure payment methods and prioritize suppliers on Made-in-China.com who offer Secured Trading services. Never pay 100% upfront; a standard 30% deposit and 70% balance after third-party inspection (but before shipping) is the industry best practice to mitigate the risk of receiving sub-standard goods.

Focus on MOQ flexibility and customization (OEM). Many factories will allow you to mix and match 'heads' and 'bodies' to create a diverse catalog without high inventory costs. Negotiate for spare parts (extra hands, cleaning kits, or repair glue) to be included in the bulk price to improve your after-sales service capability.
