Import furniture from china manufacturers

When sourcing from China, prioritize kiln-dried solid wood (moisture content 8-12%) to prevent warping in different climates. For upholstered items, ensure high-resilience foam (density ≥35kg/m³) and E1 or E0 grade eco-friendly boards to meet formaldehyde emission standards. Always verify if the hardware uses 304 stainless steel or branded soft-close hinges for longevity.

Depending on your market, you must verify FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) for sustainable wood, CAL 117 or BS 5852 for fire retardancy in the US/UK, and REACH or CE marking for the European market. For office furniture, look for BIFMA X5.1 testing reports to ensure structural safety and durability.

Request detailed technical drawings and exploded views before production. Ensure the use of mortise and tenon joints or corner block reinforcements rather than just glue and nails. For heavy items like wardrobes, confirm the load-bearing capacity of shelves and hanging rails (typically >30kg).

Top-tier suppliers on Made-in-China.com should offer CAD/3D rendering services and the ability to adjust dimensions by ±10-15%. Ensure they can provide physical material swatches (fabric, leather, wood finishes) for approval before the mass production phase begins.

The biggest risks are shipping damage and quality inconsistency. Mitigate these by mandating 5-layer corrugated export cartons with EPE foam edge protectors and hiring a third-party inspection agency (like V-Trust or SGS) to perform a During Production Check (DUPRO) and a Final Random Inspection (FRI) before the balance payment.

Furniture is volume-heavy; negotiate based on container load (20GP/40HQ) rather than just unit pieces. Aim for a 30% deposit and 70% balance against the Bill of Lading (B/L) copy. For new designs, ask for a sample fee refund once the first full container order is placed.

For commercial quantities, FCL (Full Container Load) is significantly safer and more cost-effective than LCL (Less than Container Load), as it reduces handling and the risk of crushing. Utilize FOB (Free On Board) terms to maintain control over your freight forwarder and local destination charges.

Always verify the supplier's Business License and Export Qualification on Made-in-China.com. Use secured payment methods and consider Audit Reports provided by the platform to confirm the factory's actual production scale and existence, avoiding 'trading companies' posing as manufacturers.
