Long wooden stick matches manufacturers

When sourcing long matches (typically 20cm to 30cm for fireplaces or candles), you must prioritize wood quality and treatment. Ensure the sticks are made from high-quality aspen or pine wood that has been de-resinated and polished to prevent splintering. The wood must be impregnated with ammonium phosphate to ensure the stick glows but does not smolder after the flame is extinguished. Additionally, verify the head composition is phosphorus-free (safety matches) and that the burn time meets your specific usage scenario requirements.

Matches are classified as Dangerous Goods (Class 4.1 Flammable Solids). You must ensure the supplier provides an MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) and a UN38.3 test report if applicable. For the US market, compliance with 16 CFR Part 1202 (Safety Standard for Matchbooks/Matches) is essential. For the EU, products must adhere to EN 1783:1997, which defines requirements for performance, packaging, and marking. Always confirm the supplier has a Dangerous Goods Export License to avoid customs seizures.

The striking surface (usually located on the side of the box) should be composed of a high-friction red phosphorus mixture. A quality indicator is the strike-to-ignition ratio, which should be 100% on the first strike. Ask the supplier for the friction durability rating—the surface should remain effective for at least double the number of matches contained in the box. For premium long matches, a honeycomb or specialized grit pattern is preferred to ensure consistent ignition even in slightly humid conditions.

B2B buyers can usually customize the stick color (natural, black, or dyed), the match head color (to match brand aesthetics), and the packaging finish. Options include UV coating, hot stamping, and matte lamination on the matchbox. For high-end retail, consider glass jar packaging or sliding drawer boxes with a minimum order quantity (MOQ) usually starting at 1,000 to 5,000 units depending on the complexity of the printing.

Matches cannot be shipped via standard air courier (like DHL/FedEx) without specialized dangerous goods handling. They must be shipped via Sea Freight (LCL or FCL) in compliance with IMDG (International Maritime Dangerous Goods) codes. Ensure the outer cartons are UN-certified packaging with the appropriate Class 4.1 labels. Failure to declare these as dangerous goods can lead to heavy fines, blacklisting, and legal action by shipping lines.

Negotiate a Defect Rate Guarantee (typically less than 1-2%). Since matches are functional safety items, a broken stick or a head that falls off during ignition is a liability. Demand a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) where a third party tests the moisture content of the wood (should be below 8-10%) and the ignition stability. Use Made-in-China.com's Secured Trading services to ensure payment is only released after the inspection report is approved.

Always verify the supplier's Business License and their specific Production License for Matches, as this is a regulated industry in many regions. Conduct transactions through reputable B2B platforms like Made-in-China.com to utilize their Audit Supplier reports. This confirms the factory's physical existence and production capacity, reducing the risk of dealing with unauthorized intermediaries who cannot handle the complex export documentation required for flammable items.
