Lotus plant for sale manufacturers

When sourcing lotus (Nelumbo nucifera), you must specify the variety type (e.g., Bowl Lotus for small containers vs. Large Lotus for ponds). Key technical factors include the rhizome health, which should be firm with at least two to three healthy growth nodes. Ensure the supplier provides dormant tubers if shipping long distances, as they are more resilient than sprouted plants. For seeds, verify the germination rate, which should ideally be above 85%.

Live plants are highly regulated. You must ensure the supplier can provide a Phytosanitary Certificate issued by their national plant protection organization. The plants must be free from soil (often packed in peat moss or hydrogel) to comply with most countries' import laws regarding soil-borne pathogens. Additionally, check if the specific species is listed under CITES appendices to avoid legal complications during customs clearance.

To ensure you receive the correct flower color and petal type (single, semi-double, or multi-petal), request DNA barcoding or cultivar registration documents for high-value orders. Ask for real-time photos or videos of the parent plants in bloom. For B2B buyers, it is recommended to source from suppliers on Made-in-China.com who have audited supplier status, ensuring they have the nursery capacity to fulfill bulk cultivar-specific orders.

Lotus rhizomes are sensitive to temperature and dehydration. They should be vacuum-sealed or packed in moist vermiculite and kept at temperatures between 5°C and 10°C during transit to maintain dormancy. For air freight, ensure the packaging is pressure-resistant to prevent the hollow air canals (aerenchyma) within the rhizome from collapsing, which would lead to rot.

The biggest risk is Customs Seizure or Destruction if the shipment lacks proper documentation or contains prohibited organic matter. Another risk is Biological Mortality due to shipping delays. To mitigate this, always use Express Air Freight and ensure the Incoterms are clearly defined (e.g., DAP or DDP) so the responsibility for customs clearance is assigned to the party with the most expertise.

Negotiate a 'Survival Guarantee' clause where the supplier compensates for tubers that fail to sprout within 30 days of arrival, provided planting instructions were followed. Use Secure Payment Services like those offered on Made-in-China.com to hold funds in escrow until the shipping documents and phytosanitary certificates are verified by the carrier.

For international orders, Air Freight is mandatory; sea freight is too slow and will result in 100% mortality. Ensure the supplier uses IATA-compliant live plant packaging. If shipping to the US or EU, verify if an Import Permit is required from your local agricultural department (e.g., USDA APHIS) before the supplier dispatches the goods.

Always conduct a Factory Audit or request a third-party inspection to verify the nursery's existence. Prioritize suppliers with high transaction levels and positive feedback on professional B2B platforms. Ensure all trade terms, lead times, and refund policies are documented in a formal contract uploaded to the sourcing platform to provide a legal basis for dispute resolution.
