Military challenge coins manufacturers

Most professional challenge coins are made from Zinc Alloy (ideal for 3D relief) or Brass (heavier, premium feel). For plating, you should choose between antique gold, silver, or copper to highlight fine details, or high-polish finishes for a modern look. Ensure the supplier uses electroplating processes that resist oxidation and fading over time.

Hard Enamel (Cloisonné) provides a smooth, flat surface where the metal lines are flush with the color, offering the highest durability and a premium jewelry-like finish. Soft Enamel has recessed colors and raised metal borders, providing a textured 3D feel and is generally more cost-effective for large-scale distribution.

The standard diameter is usually 1.5 to 2 inches (38mm to 50mm), with a thickness of 3mm to 4mm. For complex designs, request CNC-engraved molds to ensure sharp details. If the design includes text, ensure the minimum line weight is at least 0.2mm to prevent blurring during the casting process.

Beyond a standard smooth edge, you can specify diamond-cut edges (such as rope, petal, or oblique line patterns). These add a reflective sparkle and professional aesthetic that is highly valued in military and corporate commemorative circles.

When sourcing from Made-in-China.com, prioritize suppliers with OEM/ODM experience and sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) before sharing high-resolution vector files (AI or CDR). Ensure the supplier agrees not to display your custom unit insignia in their public showrooms or online portfolios.

Challenge coins are dense and heavy, which significantly impacts air freight costs. Always request a landed cost estimate including customs duties. To mitigate risk, use Trade Assurance services on Made-in-China.com to ensure the goods meet quality standards before the final payment is released.

Request a pre-production sample (PPS) for approval before the full run. For the bulk order, ask for a video inspection or hire a third-party inspection service to check for color matching (Pantone), plating consistency, and weight accuracy.

Negotiate based on mold fees and unit price tiers. Many suppliers will waive the mold fee if the order exceeds 500 or 1,000 units. Also, clarify the lead time, which typically ranges from 7-10 days for sampling and 15-20 days for mass production.
