Plastic clad steel tape manufacturers

Buyers must focus on the steel core thickness (typically 0.15mm to 0.25mm) and the plastic coating thickness (usually 0.05mm per side). The tensile strength should meet industry standards (e.g., ≥300 MPa) to ensure the tape does not snap during high-tension cable manufacturing. Additionally, verify the peel strength between the plastic layer (PE or EAA) and the steel base to prevent delamination during processing.

For telecommunications and power cable applications, ensure the product complies with ASTM W827 or IEC 60708. It is critical to request RoHS and REACH certifications to guarantee the absence of hazardous substances, especially for exports to the EU. For high-end infrastructure projects, look for suppliers with ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems.

The coating is typically Copolymer (EAA) or Polyethylene (PE). EAA-coated tapes offer superior bonding to the outer cable jacket, providing an excellent moisture barrier and chemical resistance. PE-coated tapes are more cost-effective but may offer lower adhesion. Choose based on the environmental stress cracking resistance (ESCR) requirements of the final cable product.

It is primarily used as an armoring layer in fiber optic cables and communication cables. Its main functions include moisture proofing, chemical protection, and providing a mechanical barrier against rodent attacks or physical crushing in underground or aerial installations.

Always request a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) by a third-party agency like SGS or Intertek. Specifically, ask for a micrometer test to verify thickness consistency across the entire roll and a spark test to ensure there are no pinholes in the plastic coating. Since steel is a commodity, prices fluctuate with the global steel market index. Negotiate a formula-based pricing model for long-term contracts. For MOQs, many top-tier suppliers require 2 to 5 tons; however, you can negotiate a smaller trial order by agreeing to standard widths (e.g., 10mm, 20mm) that the factory already has in production.

Plastic Clad Steel Tape is heavy and susceptible to edge damage. Insist on vertical eye-to-sky packaging on reinforced wooden pallets with fumigation certificates. Ensure each coil is wrapped in VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) film and moisture-proof paper to prevent rust during long-duration sea transit.

Check the HS Code (typically 7326 or 7212) against your country's tariff schedule to identify potential anti-dumping duties on steel products. Work with a freight forwarder experienced in industrial raw materials to ensure all Certificate of Origin (CO) documents are accurately prepared to leverage Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).
