Shipping cost from china to lagos manufacturers

The cost is primarily influenced by the shipping method (Sea Freight vs. Air Freight), the weight and volume (CBM) of the cargo, and the current fuel surcharges. For sea freight, costs fluctuate based on whether you use Full Container Load (FCL) or Less than Container Load (LCL). Additionally, the type of goods (general cargo vs. sensitive goods like batteries or liquids) will impact the baseline freight rate.

Choose Air Freight if your cargo is under 100kg or requires urgent delivery (typically 5-9 days). It is more expensive but offers higher security. Opt for Sea Freight for bulkier items or shipments over 2 CBM, as it is significantly more cost-effective for large volumes, though the transit time to Apapa or Tin Can port usually ranges from 35 to 45 days.

All goods must comply with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Program (SONCAP). You must obtain a Product Certificate (PC) and a SONCAP Certificate (SC) to clear customs. Failure to provide these will lead to heavy fines or cargo seizure. Additionally, ensure your supplier provides a Form M and a Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR).

Prioritize providers with the 'Audited Supplier' badge and check their years of operation. Look for logistics companies that specialize in the Africa route and have a physical presence or partner office in Lagos (Ikeja, Apapa, or Lagos Island). Review their transaction history and buyer feedback to ensure they handle customs clearance efficiently.

The biggest risks include port congestion at Apapa, fluctuating exchange rates (USD to NGN), and unexpected demurrage charges. To mitigate these, negotiate for 14-21 days of free demurrage at the destination and use professional clearing agents who understand the local 'fast-track' procedures.

Always request an 'All-In' price quote to avoid hidden fees like documentation or warehouse handling charges. Ask for volume-based discounts if you ship regularly. If you are sourcing from multiple suppliers, ask the forwarder for consolidation services in their China warehouse to reduce the total shipping cost.

Use Secured Trading Services on Made-in-China.com to protect your payments. Never pay the full shipping fee upfront; instead, pay a deposit and settle the balance against the Bill of Lading (B/L) copy or once the goods are confirmed as departed. Ensure the forwarder provides a tracking number and regular status updates.

The most efficient method for many B2B buyers is Groupage (LCL) with Door-to-Door service, where the clearing cost is included in the freight rate per CBM or KG. This simplifies the process as the forwarder handles the customs duties and PAAR processing, delivering the goods directly to your warehouse in Lagos.
