Underwear for women manufacturers

Prioritize fabrics with high breathability and moisture-wicking properties. For daily wear, 95% Cotton and 5% Spandex is the industry standard for comfort and elasticity. For seamless varieties, look for Nylon/Spandex blends with a 100% Cotton gusset (crotch lining) to ensure hygiene and prevent bacterial growth. Ensure the fabric weight is between 140-180 GSM for the ideal balance of durability and softness.

Suppliers must adhere to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, which guarantees the absence of harmful substances in textiles. For the US market, compliance with CPSIA (especially regarding lead and phthalates in trims) is essential. For the EU, ensure products meet REACH regulations. Additionally, verify that the manufacturer holds an ISO 9001 certification for quality management and BSCI or Sedex audits for social responsibility compliance.

Focus on the stitch density, which should be at least 10-12 stitches per inch to prevent unraveling. Request colorfastness test reports (Grade 4 or higher) to ensure dyes do not bleed during washing. For elastic components, verify the recovery rate; high-quality waistbands should retain their shape after being stretched to 200% of their original length for multiple cycles.

A top-tier supplier should provide private labeling (heat-transfer tags), custom waistband logo weaving, and bespoke packaging (e.g., eco-friendly frosted bags). They should also support size grading to accommodate different regional body types, such as Asian, European, or Plus-size charts, and offer CAD pattern-making services for rapid prototyping.

Always request a pre-production sample (PPS) before the bulk run. For large orders, hire a third-party inspection agency (like SGS or Intertek) to perform a During Production Check (DUPRO) and a Final Random Inspection (FRI). Focus specifically on needle detection to ensure no broken metal fragments remain in the delicate fabric, which is a critical safety requirement for intimate apparel.

Start by discussing a trial order MOQ (e.g., 500-1,000 pieces per style) to test the market. Negotiate based on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), including shipping and duties, rather than just the unit price. You can often secure a 5-10% discount by committing to a long-term purchasing forecast or by consolidating multiple designs into a single fabric type to help the supplier optimize their material usage.

Underwear is lightweight but high-volume. For cost-efficiency, Sea Freight (LCL or FCL) is preferred for bulk orders, typically taking 30-45 days. If you need to restock quickly, Air Freight is viable but expensive. Ensure your supplier provides a detailed Packing List and Commercial Invoice with the correct HS Code (typically 6108 for knitted underwear) to avoid customs delays and ensure accurate duty calculation.

Utilize Secured Trading Services offered by professional platforms like Made-in-China.com to protect your payment until the goods are shipped. Use Letters of Credit (L/C) for very large transactions or Telegraphic Transfer (T/T) with a 30% deposit and 70% balance against the Bill of Lading (B/L) copy. Avoid using untraceable payment methods for initial transactions with new suppliers.
