185nm uv lamp manufacturers

The 185nm wavelength is unique because it has enough energy to break down oxygen (O2) molecules to produce ozone (O3), which acts as a powerful oxidizing agent for air deodorization and TOC (Total Organic Carbon) reduction in water. In contrast, 254nm is primarily used for direct germicidal disinfection. For B2B buyers, 185nm lamps are essential for exhaust gas treatment, kitchen hood grease control, and ultra-pure water systems.

You must prioritize high-purity synthetic quartz glass over standard ozone-free glass, as only specific quartz allows the transmission of the 185nm vacuum UV line. Key metrics include Ozone Output (measured in g/h), Rated Life (typically 8,000 to 13,000 hours), and UV Intensity Decay Rate. Ensure the supplier provides a spectrophotometer test report confirming the peak emission at 185nm.

For the US market, products must be EPA registered (Establishment Number) and comply with UL 1598 or UL 1995 standards. For the EU, CE marking (LVD and EMC directives) and RoHS compliance (restricting hazardous substances like mercury) are mandatory. Since these lamps generate ozone, you must also ensure the end-use system complies with local ozone emission safety limits (e.g., OSHA or WHO standards).

The ballast is the 'heart' of the UV system. You should select electronic high-frequency ballasts that are specifically matched to the lamp's current and voltage requirements. A mismatched ballast can lead to premature blackening of the lamp ends, unstable ozone production, and a reduction in lifespan by up to 50%. Always request a system compatibility test from the supplier.

The primary risk is fragility and mercury content. UV lamps are classified as Dangerous Goods (Class 9) in some jurisdictions due to mercury vapor. You must ensure the supplier uses U-shaped pearl cotton inserts, thickened outer cartons, and wooden crates for bulk shipments. Verify that the supplier provides a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and a UN38.3 test report if applicable to facilitate smooth customs clearance.

Focus on Annual Procurement Volume (APV) rather than single-order quantity to secure 'Tier 1' pricing. Request a sample credit policy, where the cost of samples is deducted from the first bulk order. Additionally, negotiate a Quality Warranty of at least 12 months, insisting that the supplier covers replacement shipping costs for lamps that fail before their rated life hours.

Always utilize Secured Trading Services provided by Made-in-China.com to protect your payment until delivery is confirmed. For large-scale industrial projects, hire a third-party inspection agency (like SGS or Intertek) to perform a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI). The inspector should specifically check for vacuum integrity, electrode alignment, and power-on stability.

Cross-border buyers often overlook voltage and frequency variations. Clearly specify if you require 110V/60Hz (North America) or 220V/50Hz (Europe/Asia). Requesting wide-voltage ballasts (90V-265V) is a professional strategy to mitigate risks associated with local power fluctuations, which can otherwise cause flickering or circuit failure.
