Blank house key manufacturers

The most common materials are Brass, Steel, and Aluminum. Brass is the industry standard due to its durability and ease of cutting without damaging key-cutting machines. For high-security applications, look for Nickel-Silver alloys, which offer superior wear resistance. Ensure the blanks have a corrosion-resistant plating (like nickel or chrome) to prevent oxidation over time.

You must identify the specific Keyway Profile (e.g., SC1 for Schlage, KW1 for Kwikset, or M1 for Master Lock). Request cross-reference charts from the supplier to match their internal codes with international standards. For B2B buyers, it is critical to verify the blade thickness and shoulder-to-tip length with a tolerance of +/- 0.02mm to ensure smooth insertion and rotation.

Prioritize suppliers with ISO 9001 certification for consistent manufacturing processes. For specialized markets, check if the products meet ANSI/BHMA standards for hardware. Ensure the supplier uses precision stamping or milling technology to avoid 'burrs' or rough edges, which can lead to high return rates from locksmiths and end-users.

Yes, most professional manufacturers on Made-in-China.com offer OEM/ODM services. You can request custom head shapes, embossed logos, or plastic-covered heads for ergonomic grip. For promotional use, color-anodized aluminum keys are popular, but ensure the anodization layer is thick enough to withstand daily friction.

The main risk is profile mismatch, where the keyway looks correct but has slight dimensional variances that make it unusable. Always request physical samples for testing on local lock cylinders before placing a bulk order. Additionally, be aware of Intellectual Property (IP) restrictions; ensure the supplier has the right to manufacture specific patented key profiles to avoid customs seizures.

Key blanks are a low-margin, high-volume commodity. Aim for tiered pricing where the unit cost drops significantly at 10,000+ units. Negotiate for free molding if you are requesting a custom logo. To reduce shipping costs, which can be high due to the weight of brass/steel, consider Sea Freight (LCL) and ask the supplier to use heavy-duty, moisture-proof packaging to prevent rust during transit.

Use Secure Payment services provided by Made-in-China.com to ensure funds are only released upon proof of shipment. For shipping, ensure the HS Code (typically 8301.70) is correctly declared to avoid delays. Because keys are heavy, ensure the cartons are reinforced with nylon strapping and palletized to prevent box collapse during multi-modal transport.
