Ceramic tile mould manufacturers

When sourcing ceramic tile moulds, the material composition is paramount. High-quality moulds typically use special alloy steel (such as Cr12MoV) for the frame and tungsten carbide inserts for the liners to ensure high wear resistance. You must verify the hardness rating (HRC 60-65) of the working surfaces. Additionally, ensure the dimensional tolerance is within ±0.05mm to prevent tile defects, and check if the exhaust system design is optimized to avoid air pockets during the pressing process.

Compatibility is determined by the mould base dimensions and the fixing hole patterns. You should provide the supplier with your press machine's technical parameters, including the maximum pressure (tonnage), piston stroke, and bolster plate size. It is highly recommended to request CAD/DWG drawings for technical alignment before production. For automated lines, confirm that the ejection system and magnetic base (if applicable) are synchronized with your machine's PLC cycles.

A reliable supplier should hold ISO 9001:2015 certification for quality management. For the European market, ensure the components meet CE marking requirements where applicable. Furthermore, request a Material Test Report (MTR) to verify the chemical composition of the steel and a Heat Treatment Certificate to ensure the durability of the mould under high-pressure cycles (often exceeding 200,000 to 500,000 hits depending on the grade).

Moulds are categorized by the end product: Wall Tile Moulds (lighter, focus on surface texture), Floor Tile Moulds (heavy-duty, focus on structural strength), and Porcelain/Vitrefied Tile Moulds (designed for ultra-high pressure). You can also choose between SMU (Single Mouth Unit) for large formats or Multi-cavity moulds for high-volume production of smaller tiles like mosaics or 300x300mm formats to maximize production efficiency.

The biggest risks are technical misalignment and shipping damage. Because moulds are extremely heavy and precision-engineered, any rust or dent during transit renders them useless. Always insist on vacuum packaging and anti-rust oil coating inside fumigated wooden crates. To mitigate financial risk, use Trade Assurance services on Made-in-China.com to ensure the goods meet your technical specifications before final payment is released.

Moulds are customized products, so pricing is driven by steel weight and machining complexity. Negotiate based on lifecycle cost rather than just the initial price; a mould that lasts 30% longer is worth a 10-15% premium. For lead times, standard moulds usually take 25-40 days. Request a weekly production progress report with photos to ensure the project stays on schedule and to avoid delays in your factory's production timeline.

Never skip the Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI). You should require the supplier to perform a trial press (sampling) using your specific raw material (clay powder) if possible. If you cannot visit the factory, hire a third-party inspection agency to verify the Vickers hardness, surface roughness (Ra value), and final dimensions against the approved blueprints.

Due to their high density, moulds are best shipped via Sea Freight (LCL or FCL). Ensure the supplier provides the correct HS Code (typically 848071 or 848041) to avoid customs delays. Be aware of anti-dumping duties in certain regions for steel products. For smooth clearance, ensure the Packing List clearly states the net weight and gross weight, as discrepancies can lead to heavy fines at the port of entry.
