I have found results from8000+products and3000+suppliers aboutGaskets for butterfly valves
Material selection is critical for sealing integrity. For water and neutral oils, EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is the standard choice due to its excellent aging resistance. For petroleum-based fluids, NBR (Nitrile Rubber) is required for its oil resistance. If the application involves high temperatures or aggressive chemicals, you must specify Viton (FKM) or PTFE (Teflon), which can withstand temperatures up to 200°C and offer superior chemical inertness.
Ensure the gaskets comply with international flange standards such as ANSI/ASME B16.5, EN 1092, or JIS B2220 to guarantee a perfect fit. You should also request the Shore A Hardness rating (typically 70-80 Shore A for butterfly valves) and verify the compression set values to ensure the gasket maintains its shape and sealing pressure over time.
For potable water systems, gaskets must have WRAS, NSF/ANSI 61, or ACS certifications. For food and beverage processing, FDA-grade materials are mandatory. If the gaskets are intended for gas pipelines, look for EN 549 compliance. Always request Material Test Reports (MTRs) and Certificates of Conformity to ensure traceability.
Request a tensile strength test and an elongation at break report from the manufacturer. For high-pressure environments, ask for hydrostatic pressure testing results. It is highly recommended to perform a fit-test on a sample valve body to check for 'cold flow' issues or improper seating, which are common causes of leaks in low-quality rubber components.
The biggest risk is material substitution, where a supplier uses a lower-grade polymer (e.g., SBR instead of EPDM) to reduce costs. To mitigate this, use third-party inspection services like SGS or Intertek to conduct FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) testing before shipment to verify the chemical composition.
For custom-shaped gaskets, expect a molding fee. Negotiate to have this fee refunded or credited once your cumulative order volume reaches a certain threshold (e.g., 5,000 units). For standard sizes, leverage Made-in-China.com to compare prices, but prioritize Audited Suppliers who offer Trade Analysis reports to ensure financial stability.
Rubber gaskets are sensitive to UV light, ozone, and extreme temperatures. Ensure the supplier uses UV-resistant vacuum packaging or black PE bags. For shipping to humid climates, include desiccants in the crates. Specify that gaskets should be stored flat rather than hung to avoid permanent deformation of the sealing lips.
Always use Secure Payment methods provided by reputable B2B platforms like Made-in-China.com to protect your funds until delivery. Verify the HS Code (typically 4016.93 for rubber gaskets) to calculate accurate import duties and ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Origin to benefit from any applicable Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).
