Glass bottles jars manufacturers

Buyers must distinguish between Type I (Borosilicate), Type II (Treated Soda-Lime), and Type III (Soda-Lime) glass. For pharmaceutical or high-heat applications, Borosilicate glass is essential due to its superior thermal shock resistance. For food and beverage, ensure the glass is lead-free and BPA-free. Additionally, check the annealing quality to prevent spontaneous breakage caused by internal stress.

For the US market, products must meet FDA 21 CFR 177 standards for food contact. In the EU, compliance with EC 1935/2004 and Directive 94/62/EC regarding heavy metal limits is required. If sourcing for cosmetics, ensure the jars pass leakage tests (vacuum tests) and are compatible with the chemical composition of the contents to avoid leaching or reaction.

The bottle neck finish (e.g., GPI/GCMI standards like 24/410 or 28/400) must perfectly match the closure. Request torque testing data to ensure the caps provide an airtight seal. For carbonated drinks, verify the internal pressure resistance (PSI). Always ask for samples of both the jar and the lid together to verify the liner material (PE, EPE, or Induction Heat Seal) effectiveness.

Common techniques include silk-screen printing, hot stamping, frosting, decal application, and electroplating. For high-end spirits or cosmetics, acid etching provides a premium matte finish. Ensure the supplier uses eco-friendly, organic inks that pass the adhesion test (cross-hatch tape test) to prevent peeling during transport or usage.

Glass is fragile, so packaging is the most critical factor. Insist on 5-layer corrugated export cartons with individual cell dividers (egg-crate packing). For bulk shipments, use fumigated pallets with plastic wrap and corner protectors. Request a Drop Test Report (ISTA 1A or 2A) from the supplier before the goods leave the factory.

Focus on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just the unit price. Negotiate for mold cost amortization—if your volume reaches a certain threshold (e.g., 50,000 units), the supplier should refund the initial mold fee. Also, clarify the defect rate allowance; standard industry practice usually allows for a 2-3% breakage/defect rate, so negotiate for extra units to cover potential losses.

Utilize Secured Trading Services on Made-in-China.com to protect your payment until delivery. Always hire a third-party inspection agency (like SGS or Intertek) to perform a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI). They should check for bubbles, stones (impurities), mold seams, and wall thickness consistency to ensure the batch matches the approved sample.

Glass is heavy and relatively low-value, making Sea Freight (FCL - Full Container Load) the most economical option. LCL (Less than Container Load) increases the risk of breakage due to frequent handling. When calculating landed costs, factor in Anti-Dumping Duties which some regions (like the EU) may apply to specific Chinese glass categories.
