Indium metal manufacturers

The most critical factor is purity, typically ranging from 99.99% (4N) to 99.9999% (6N). For semiconductor or ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) applications, low trace element content (such as Copper, Lead, and Iron) is essential. Buyers should also specify the physical form, such as ingots, wire, foil, or powder, as this affects both the price and the manufacturing process compatibility.

Indium is primarily used in the production of ITO thin films for liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and touchscreens. It is also vital for low-melting-point alloys (used as thermal interface materials), semiconductors (InP, InGaAs), and photovoltaic cells (CIGS). Its high ductility and cold-welding properties make it excellent for vacuum sealing and cryogenic applications.

Suppliers should provide a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch, detailing the exact impurity levels. Look for manufacturers with ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 14001 for environmental standards. For electronics applications, ensure the material is RoHS compliant to meet international environmental regulations regarding hazardous substances.

Indium is an extremely soft metal that can be cut with a knife. Because it is prone to surface oxidation, it should be stored in a cool, dry environment, often in vacuum-sealed plastic or inert gas packaging. Its low melting point (156.6°C) means it must be kept away from high-heat sources during transit to prevent deformation.

The main risks include price volatility due to Indium being a minor metal and purity fraud. To mitigate this, always use third-party inspection services (like SGS) to verify the purity before final payment. Additionally, ensure the supplier uses secure, tamper-evident packaging to prevent theft, as Indium is a high-value commodity.

Pricing is often tied to global market indices (such as the Strategic Metals market prices). Negotiate based on volume-based tiers; for example, orders over 50kg to 100kg usually command significant discounts. For long-term needs, consider framework agreements to lock in supply stability, even if the price floats with the market.

Indium is generally not classified as a hazardous material for transport, but it requires accurate HS Code classification (typically 8112.92) to avoid customs delays. When sourcing from China via Made-in-China.com, ensure the supplier provides a Commercial Invoice, Packing List, and COA. For high-value shipments, Air Freight with full insurance is the recommended method to ensure speed and security.

Utilize Secured Trading Services offered by platforms like Made-in-China.com to protect your funds until delivery is confirmed. Conduct a factory audit or request a video tour of the production line to verify the supplier's refining capacity and stock levels. Avoid making full advanced payments to unverified vendors; instead, use a 30% deposit and 70% balance against the Bill of Lading (B/L).
