Iron helmet manufacturers

When sourcing iron helmets, the gauge of the steel is the most critical factor. For decorative pieces, 18-gauge (approx. 1.2mm) is standard, while functional reenactment helmets require 14-gauge to 16-gauge (1.5mm - 2.0mm) for safety and impact resistance. Ensure the interior is treated with anti-rust coating and that the exterior finish—whether polished, blackened, or antique—is consistent across the batch.

For functional use, verify that the welding points are seamless and reinforced. The helmet should include a genuine leather suspension liner and a heavy-duty chin strap with a secure buckle to ensure it stays in place during movement. Request impact test reports if the product is intended for HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) or similar contact activities to ensure it meets safety energy absorption standards.

Compliance depends on the intended use. If sold as a 'toy' or 'costume,' it must meet EN71 (EU) or ASTM F963 (US) standards regarding sharp edges and chemical composition of paints. If sold as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), it may require CE certification (EN 397). Always ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) to avoid customs seizures related to safety regulations.

Prioritize suppliers that offer adjustable internal liners and multiple sizes (M, L, XL). The internal circumference should typically range between 62cm to 68cm to accommodate padding. Ask for CAD drawings or detailed measurements of the eye-slits (visors) to ensure adequate peripheral vision and ventilation for the wearer.

The main risks are oxidation (rusting) and deformation during sea transit. Ensure the supplier uses VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) bags and moisture-absorbent silica gel packs. Helmets should be packed in double-walled corrugated boxes with custom-fit EPE foam inserts to prevent the weight of the metal from crushing the packaging during stacking.

Start by requesting a pre-production sample to inspect the thickness and finish. Use the Diamond Member filter on Made-in-China.com to find audited suppliers. Negotiate a staged payment plan (e.g., 30% deposit, 70% after third-party inspection) and clearly define the Acceptable Quality Level (AQL 2.5/4.0) in your Proforma Invoice.

Yes, some customs authorities may classify iron helmets under 'Arms and Ammunition' (Chapter 93) or 'Art and Antiques' (Chapter 97) depending on the design. To avoid high tariffs or import bans, ensure the HS Code is correctly declared (typically 7326.90 for other articles of iron/steel). Check for anti-dumping duties on steel products in your specific country.

Utilize Secured Trading Services offered by Made-in-China.com to ensure your payment is only released after you confirm receipt and inspection. Always hire a third-party inspection agency (like SGS or Intertek) to perform a Final Random Inspection (FRI) at the factory before the balance payment is made to verify the steel gauge and quantity.
