Plastic basket used mold manufacturers

When sourcing a used mold, you must verify the steel grade of the cavity and core (e.g., P20, 718, or S136) as this determines the mold's remaining life. Check the mold dimensions and weight to ensure compatibility with your existing injection molding machines. Additionally, confirm the number of cavities (single vs. multi-cavity) and the cooling system efficiency, as these directly impact your production cycle time and unit cost.

Request the shot count history from the supplier to estimate how many cycles the mold has already completed. A high-quality steel mold can last for 300,000 to 1,000,000 shots. You should also ask for a video of the mold running in dry-cycle or, ideally, a mold trial report (T1/T2 samples) to check for flashing, ejector pin marks, or cooling leaks that could indicate wear.

For industrial crates, the mold must support rib reinforcements for load-bearing strength. For household or laundry baskets, the mold should produce a smooth surface finish to avoid snagging fabrics. Ensure the ejection system (mechanical or hydraulic) is robust enough to handle the specific geometry of the basket without deforming the plastic.

Ensure the mold design complies with international safety standards for injection molding. If the baskets are intended for food storage, the mold must be clean and free of toxic lubricants, and the final product must meet FDA or LFGB standards. Verify that the supplier provides technical drawings (2D/3D) to facilitate future maintenance and spare parts replacement.

The biggest risk is mechanical hidden defects that are not visible in photos, such as hairline cracks in the cavity or rusted cooling channels. To mitigate this, always use third-party inspection services (like SGS or Intertek) to conduct a physical audit before final payment. Ensure the transaction is protected through secure payment terms or trade assurance services provided by reputable platforms like Made-in-China.com.

Negotiate for a pre-shipment refurbishment, which should include cleaning, polishing, and replacing worn-out springs or O-rings. For shipping, insist on heavy-duty wooden crate packaging with anti-rust oil coating and vacuum sealing to prevent corrosion during sea freight. Clearly define the Incoterms (e.g., FOB or CIF) to understand who bears the risk during transit.

You will need a Commercial Invoice, Packing List, and Bill of Lading. Specifically for used machinery/molds, some countries require a Certificate of Origin and a Pre-shipment Inspection Certificate to prove the item is not hazardous waste. Check your local import tariffs for HS Code 848071 (Molds for plastic) to calculate the total landed cost accurately.
