You should prioritize High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) or Polypropylene (PP), as these materials are non-toxic, BPA-free, and offer excellent impact resistance. For transparent parts, Polycarbonate (PC) is preferred for its clarity and strength. Ensure the supplier uses virgin plastic rather than recycled materials to avoid heavy metal contamination and ensure structural integrity.
Compliance is critical in the toy industry. You must verify that products meet EN71 (Europe), ASTM F963 (USA), or ISO 8124 (International) standards. These certifications cover mechanical properties, flammability, and chemical migration. Additionally, ensure the supplier provides a Children's Product Certificate (CPC) for U.S. markets or a CE Marking for the EU.
Focus on the 'Small Parts Test' to prevent choking hazards; no component should fit into a standard small parts cylinder. Check for smooth edges and rounded corners to prevent lacerations. For friction-powered or pull-back models, verify the internal gear durability through a 500-cycle stress test. Request a tension test report for any detachable parts like wheels or spoilers.
Most professional suppliers offer OEM/ODM services, including custom mold creation for unique designs, Private Labeling (Logo Printing) via silk screen or heat transfer, and customized packaging (window boxes or blister packs). For promotional items, you can request specific Pantone color matching for the plastic body.
The biggest risks include chemical non-compliance (phthalates and lead levels) and intellectual property (IP) infringement. Always conduct a Third-Party Lab Test on a random sample before final payment. To avoid IP issues, ensure the design does not mimic trademarked automotive brands unless the supplier holds a valid licensing agreement.
For small plastic cars, unit prices are highly sensitive to raw material (resin) market fluctuations. Negotiate a tiered pricing structure based on volume; typically, a 20% price reduction is achievable when moving from 1,000 to 10,000 units. If you are a startup, look for suppliers on Made-in-China.com that offer 'Ready-to-Ship' items with lower MOQs to test the market first.
Since plastic cars are lightweight but can be bulky, volumetric weight often dictates shipping costs. Use vacuum packaging or 'nested' designs to reduce volume. For large orders, FOB (Free On Board) is recommended to maintain control over sea freight costs. For urgent samples, use courier services (DHL/FedEx), but ensure the supplier provides a Non-DG (Non-Dangerous Goods) Declaration if the cars contain batteries.
Utilize the Secured Trading services provided by Made-in-China.com to protect your payment until delivery is confirmed. Always insist on a Proforma Invoice (PI) that clearly states the material composition, lead time, and defect rate allowance (usually <1%). Avoid direct wire transfers to personal accounts; always pay to the verified company bank account.
