Special container manufacturers

When procuring special containers (such as Open Top, Flat Rack, Refrigerated, or Tank containers), you must prioritize Corten Steel (SPA-H) for corrosion resistance. For Reefer containers, ensure the cooling unit is from reputable brands like Carrier, Daikin, or Thermo King and verify insulation thickness (typically 100mm). For Flat Racks, check the payload capacity and ensure the collapsible ends have secure locking mechanisms. All units must meet ISO 668 for dimensions and ISO 1496 for testing specifications.

Every container used for international shipping must have a valid CSC Plate (Container Safety Convention) issued by a classification society such as ABS, BV, CCS, or GL. If the container is for transporting food or chemicals, it must comply with ISO 1496-3. For European markets, ensure CE certification and PED (Pressure Equipment Directive) for tank containers. Additionally, verify the UIC (International Union of Railways) registration if rail transport is involved.

Request a Third-Party Inspection (TPI) report from agencies like SGS or Intertek. Key tests should include the Rain Test (for water tightness), Floor Strength Test, and Corner Post Lifting Test. For customized 'Container Houses' or 'Equipment Enclosures,' ensure the welding quality meets AWS D1.1 standards and the paint thickness (DFT) is at least 120-150 microns to prevent rust in maritime environments.

Open Top containers are designed for over-height cargo like machinery, while Flat Racks are essential for over-width or heavy-lift loads such as pipes or vehicles. Tank containers (ISO Tanks) are the standard for liquid chemicals or food-grade liquids. Understanding the specific loading method (top-loading vs. side-loading) is crucial for determining which special container type will minimize your Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and logistics complexity.

The biggest risk is structural non-compliance, where a container lacks a valid CSC plate, making it illegal to load onto a vessel. Another risk is hidden damage in 'Used/Refurbished' units. To mitigate this, always source from Verified Suppliers on Made-in-China.com who provide IICL (Institute of International Container Lessors) inspection standards.

Prices for special containers are heavily influenced by global steel prices. It is recommended to negotiate Volume-Based Discounts (typically 5-10% for orders over 10 units). For payment, use Letter of Credit (L/C) or Escrow services to ensure the funds are only released after the Bill of Lading (B/L) and Quality Inspection Certificate are verified.

Shipping empty containers is costly. The most economical method is 'One-Way Leasing' (Cabotage), where you allow a carrier to use your container for one trip to your destination, significantly reducing or eliminating freight costs. Alternatively, use SOC (Shipper Owned Container) terms to avoid demurrage and detention fees at the destination port.

Utilize the Secured Trading Service on Made-in-China.com to protect your payment. Ensure the contract explicitly states the Classification Society that will certify the unit. Never transfer full payment upfront; a standard structure is 30% deposit and 70% against the copy of the B/L and the CSC certification photos.
