Virgin pet resin manufacturers

When evaluating Virgin PET Resin, the most critical parameter is the Intrinsic Viscosity (IV). For water bottles, an IV of 0.80-0.82 dL/g is standard, while carbonated soft drinks require a higher IV of 0.84-0.86 dL/g to withstand internal pressure. Additionally, you must verify the Acetaldehyde (AA) content, which should be <1.0 ppm for water applications to prevent off-flavors, and ensure the melting point is stable around 245-255°C for consistent injection molding.

For food and beverage packaging, the resin must strictly adhere to FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) regulations or EU Directive 10/2011 regarding plastic materials intended to come into contact with food. Ensure the supplier provides a Declaration of Compliance (DoC) and recent Migration Testing reports from accredited third-party labs like SGS or Intertek to guarantee the absence of heavy metals and harmful phthalates.

PET is highly hygroscopic. The moisture content must be reduced to less than 0.005% (50 ppm) before processing. If the resin is not properly dried using a desiccant dryer at temperatures of 160-180°C for 4-6 hours, it will undergo hydrolytic degradation, leading to a drop in IV, reduced mechanical strength, and poor clarity in the final preforms or sheets.

Virgin PET is categorized by application: Bottle Grade (used for mineral water, edible oil, and beverages), Textile Grade (used for polyester staple fiber and filament yarn), and Film/Sheet Grade (used for food trays and industrial packaging). Buyers should specify the end-use scenario to the supplier to ensure the correct crystallinity and thermal stability profiles are provided.

The primary risk is quality fluctuation between batches. To mitigate this, always request a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every shipment. Another significant risk is price volatility linked to crude oil markets; it is advisable to use Fixed-Price contracts for short-term needs or Formula-Based pricing for long-term supply. For secure transactions, utilize Made-in-China.com's secured payment services or Irrevocable Letters of Credit (L/C at sight).

PET resin is typically shipped in 1.1-ton Jumbo Bags or 25kg PP woven bags. Ensure the containers are sea-worthy, dry, and free from odors. During transit and storage, the resin must be kept away from direct sunlight and moisture. For shipping to global destinations, FOB (Free On Board) is recommended if you have a reliable freight forwarder, but CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) may be more convenient for buyers new to chemical logistics.

Focus on volume-based incentives. Suppliers often offer significant discounts for Full Container Load (FCL) orders. Inquire about lead time stability, as PET production is continuous; top-tier suppliers should offer a lead time of 7-14 days. Additionally, negotiate for free samples (5-10kg) to conduct laboratory testing before committing to a bulk purchase of 20 tons or more.

Buyers must check for Anti-Dumping Duties (ADD) or Countervailing Duties (CVD) imposed by their local government on PET imports from specific regions. For example, the EU and USA occasionally update tariffs on polyester products. Always verify the HS Code (typically 39076100) with your customs broker to calculate the Total Landed Cost accurately before finalizing the purchase.
