Clove oil manufacturers

The primary quality marker is the Eugenol content, which should typically range between 75% and 85% for high-quality Clove Bud Oil. Buyers should also verify the Specific Gravity (1.038–1.060 at 20°C) and Refractive Index (1.527–1.535). Ensure the oil is extracted via steam distillation to preserve the therapeutic properties and aromatic profile.

Clove Bud Oil is the most premium, containing the highest eugenol and eugenyl acetate levels, making it ideal for pharmaceutical and food use. Clove Stem Oil is a mid-range option often used in fragrance, while Clove Leaf Oil is the most economical, containing high eugenol but lower aromatic complexity, frequently used for industrial eugenol extraction.

For food and cosmetic applications, look for ISO 22000 (Food Safety Management) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certifications. If exporting to the US, FDA registration is essential. For the EU market, compliance with REACH regulations and IFRA (International Fragrance Association) standards is mandatory to ensure the product is free from prohibited contaminants.

Clove oil is highly corrosive to certain plastics; therefore, it must be stored in fluorinated HDPE containers, epoxy-lined steel drums, or dark glass bottles. It should be kept in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent oxidation. Suppliers should provide COA (Certificate of Analysis) and MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for every batch.

Clove oil is classified as a Class 9 Miscellaneous Dangerous Good or sometimes a flammable liquid depending on the flashpoint. You must ensure the supplier provides a DGM (Dangerous Goods Management) report and uses UN-approved packaging. Failure to declare it correctly can lead to customs seizures or heavy fines at international borders.

Prioritize Audited Suppliers who have undergone third-party verification by agencies like SGS or Bureau Veritas. Review their Audit Reports specifically for their production capacity and R&D capabilities. Request a pre-shipment sample and use secured payment terms to mitigate financial risk.

Since Clove Oil prices fluctuate based on harvest cycles in Indonesia and Madagascar, consider long-term framework agreements to lock in prices. Negotiate based on Eugenol purity levels—if the purity falls below the agreed percentage upon third-party testing at the destination, the contract should include a price adjustment or refund clause.

Always utilize Trade Terms like FOB or CIF to clearly define where the risk transfers from seller to buyer. For large orders, use Letter of Credit (L/C) or the Escrow services provided by professional platforms to ensure funds are only released after the Bill of Lading and Quality Inspection Report are verified.
